Gonzo

Joseph Wayne Gonyaw was born in Memphis, TN. in 1965 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, yes that is the Hospital that Elvis was rushed to upon his death. His parents moved to Winterhaven, Fl. when he was 5 years old.

He went to school there through the second grade, before moving back to Memphis, TN. His father, Joseph Robert Gonyaw "Joe" raced stock cars while living in Florida and he "Wayne" was always there supporting his dad. He couldn’t wait to get into racing himself one day. After moving back to Tennessee, there were no asphalt race tracks, but only dirt tracks.
This meant to his father that racing here was going to be too expensive due to the damages done to dirt track cars almost every race and therefore decided against racing stock cars all together. "Wayne" hated the fact that there was no more racing in the family and bugged his dad until finally he bought 2 go carts, one for both of them in which they both could race in different classes when Wayne was only 9 years old. They raced these on asphalt there in Memphis, and these were the real thing, Chain saw engines that did 90 miles per hour in the straight stretch! Although Wayne was never winning races, he was always in the top 5. It took more money than his dad could afford in order to compete for the lead.
Anyway, they raced these for 2 years until his dad hooked wheels in a race, flew 25 feet up in the air and then landing on his head, cracking the helmet into 2 pieces and leaving him unconscious with a major concussion.
That was the end of their go cart racing, and a good time to bring up his beautiful mother, Martha Jo. She was having no more of the go cart racing!  Well, life went on, and there was always something missing in Wayne's life, racing! His dad did try to get Wayne back into racing beginning to build a micro midget race car for dirt. These had a motocross engine and looked like a small sprint car. Unfortunately, his dad spent a fortune on this car and it never hit the track because the money ran out before he could finish it and was forced to sell it just to make ends meet.

By the time Wayne was in High school, they had moved to Collierville, TN., a small but country upscale town. Most people there were wealthy, and his dad was doing better in business and therefore was able to move up in the world. Now Wayne was a hippie moving to this small town and there were only a few hippies there. So, Wayne occupied his time with all the little country girl hotties! It was perfect for him, He was lead singer for 2 different rock bands, and the country girls went nuts over his rebellious ways! Anyway, at the age of 15, he met a country girl who later became his wife. Wayne and her father became best friends.
It was awesome, he had a Harley and Wayne could ride it anytime he wanted to, and he did. He loved riding the motorcycles more than racing!  He had a job on Weekends breaking horses, and had to quit that when his new best friend and future father-in-law bought him a Honda CR 250 dirt bike. They rode every weekend and eventually pissed off the ladies, his wife and Waynes girlfriend. Anyway, they had to cut back a little, only riding on Sundays, but that wasn’t enough riding, so Wayne bought a Honda Chopper so that he could ride all week long on 2 wheels. He could not afford a Harley then, but rode her dads a lot!

All Wayne's life, his last name Gonyaw, which was changed from the original spelling of Gagnon, which is French, had a tough time. Back then, everyone called you by your last name. No one could pronounce his last name, and because he was a hippie, everyone called him "Gonja" like the weed! Well Ted Nugent came out with the "Double Live Gonzo album and Wayne loved it! He would be jamming the album or cassette pretty much all the time. Thus came the nick name "Gonzo". It stuck like glue to him, and is still the name he goes by today. Sorry, I know you all wanted to think it was the Muppet!

Life went on, and eventually he and his first wife parted ways after the birth of his 2 fine sons, Aaron and Rick Gonyaw. There was no more riding his ex father-in -laws Harley. What was Gonzo to do, he could not ride around on that rice burner all his life. No offense to you rice burner riders, Gonzo rode them for years. The problem was that he had ridden his ex father-in-laws Harley for several years and now it was gone! To him there was no comparison. Lucky for him, there was Jack Leatherwood. Jack wood loan Gonzo a bike anytime he wanted it. Jack rode for the 1%ers Family MC. Gonzo’s cousin Ronnie "Catfish" Jones never could afford a bike due to his health problems since he was a child and Jack would let him ride his bikes as well. Gonzo rode Jacks Harleys until he was able to finally get one of his own. Gonzo lost his cousin Ronnie "Catfish" Jones last year and rode one of Jacks bikes for the funeral. 6 days later, he lost his life long bro Jack Leatherwood who was headed to Florida to see him. Gonzo loved these 2 Bro's and misses them dearly.
Anyway, Gonzo married his wife Tami and they had 5 other children, Christopher and Megan (Step children), Shelby, and 2 that died at birth, Robbie and Angel. Gonzo rode with Southern Bandits motorcycle club and was President for 1 year. This club has disbanded.

Gonzo and his family moved to Florida 3 years ago for work. He bought his first brand new Harley for his 40th birthday!  Gonzo's job is temporary, and he needed to find a way to make a living here in Florida as he had fallen in love with this place and his new Bro's. He went to work for Born to Ride TV and magazine. Things didn’t work out for him there, so he started his own TV show, Real American Biker TV which airs on Brighthouse Cable Channel 21 on Sunday Mornings at 11:30 AM and again on Thursday Evenings at 6:30 PM. He is proud of his staff, Shannon Burke with 104.1 Real Radio, the legend himself Crazy Dave, and his best friend Wide Open Brian. Also the best Editor Brian King, the best song writer Dan "DJ" Baldrich and the best sales Manager "Leaky " as well as the best Camera and lighting staff Juago.
Gonzo has made Central Florida his home and looks forward to filming you on the best biker TV show around!
